Thinking, writing, thinking about writing…

Thank You

Thank you all for your encouragement and warm comments and hugs.  I can’t answer each one individually (this ancient desktop is far too slow for that, every time I refresh something, it starts churning with alarming sound effects), but do know that I really appreciate your support.

The info loss is worse than I expected. While all my professional work has been systematically saved and filed, my creative writing output has suffered a more haphazard fate.  (What does that tell you about my priorities? Sadly.) My novel is mostly there, but all I can say is: thank goodness I have posted most of my poems (or some version of them) here on the blog…

  1. Marina Sofia – I truly understand what you are going through. It’s as though a part of you has been ripped apart and needs to be repaired {{hugs}}. I hope you’re able to piece together what you need.

  2. I understand too. Last year, before I got this laptop, several notebooks full of work were stolen from a box I had shipped to our new home. It was a couple of years worth of work, and I felt so violated. I’m going to have my husband teach me how to save things to the Cloud so I don’t lose the novel I just finished the first draft of.

  3. Sending much sympathy for all this Marina. I once lost a huge amount of uni work. such a frustrating feeling…. :(

  4. I am so sorry to hear about that! I just started using a site called http://www.yarny.me which allows you to store your work to a server. That way you can access it anywhere, although I would recommend keeping your own backup copy as well. Maybe that will help for the future. Hope you are able to piece together what you need!

  5. So sorry to see more has gone than originally thought ~ chin up m’dear ~ thinking of you x

  6. I’m so sorry for your loss. It scares to think that I could lose my notebooks with all my original poems and those I keep private so I can’t even begin to imagine what you’re going through. I wish you the best.

  7. Marina, I’m so so sorry about the burglary. You will go through a gamut of emotions. Take care of you at this time. hugs x

  8. We have multiple ways of backing up our work, but one that I’ve started using for my writing is to send myself the occasional email with the latest version attached–just in case I lose the computer or the external hard drive. I’m so glad you’d posted most of your poems. That would be a huge loss if you hadn’t.

  9. A friend has just set up dropbox for me, it feels good to be able to save work independently of my own equipment.
