Thinking, writing, thinking about writing…

Words Not My Own

I’m struggling a little to find my words right now.  6 months of corporate speak, constant travelling and consummate professionalism have taken their toll.  Writing and I have never been further apart – or so it seems.

But the good news is that the holidays have started now.  I’m taking all of July and August off.  July will be dedicated to the family, but August is mine, to read, review, blog, read your blogs and … finally nail that novel.  If only the words start flowing again.

Here are some quotes from women poets and writers which currently guide and inspire me:

The joy of writing.

The power of preserving.

Revenge of a mortal hand.  (Wisława Szymborska)

I’m not mad. It just seems that way
because I stagger and get a bit irritable.
There are wonderful holes in my brain
through which ideas from outside can travel
at top speed and through which voices,
sometimes whole people, speak to me
about the universe.  (Jo Shapcott)

For it would seem …  that we write, not with the fingers, but with the whole person. (Virginia Woolf)

Responsibility to yourself means refusing to let others do your thinking, talking, and naming for you; it means learning to respect and use your own brains and instincts; hence, grappling with hard work.  (Adrienne Rich)

  1. I’m sorry you feel far apart from your writing – but I’m really glad you’ve got time off to reconnect. We’re all here waiting :) x

  2. Marina Sofia – I love the quotes that you’ve chosen! And I know exactly how it feels to feel far apart from your writing. I hope you’ll soon get close to it again. It’s still there waiting for you. I promise.

    • Hope you’re right. At least, with all the crime fiction reviewing I’ve been doing, I’ve been getting quite good at picking up the weaknesses in other people’s books. Here’s to hoping I’ll be able to pick up on my own!

  3. Reblogged this on project easier and commented:

  4. Wonderful quotations, Marina. Rest, recuperate, the words will return x

  5. The last few months have been rough for me too. Here’s to rejuvenation!!!!

  6. I hear ya! Wishing you a stellar month of creativity in the near future!

    • Have you been having a hard time with your writing as well? I hope not. Thanks for your wishes and hope you have a good summer as well.

      • Right now I’m letting my first draft marinate for a bit. For me, it’s all about the time juggle and trying to make it all work without my head falling off. Because that would be a damn shame. : )

  7. Enjoy the hols and happy writing! XX

  8. Wishing you a happy and creative summer!
