So many of you liked the barn conversion picture I posted last Friday that I thought I would go out and take pictures of more barns in the area for you. They are a bit different from barns in the UK or US: there’s a lot more stone involved, for one.

One little confession: When I first moved to this area, I dreamt of owning a chateau with a vineyard on the hills of La Cote, overlooking Lake Geneva. With this view.

By now I would be quite happy with a converted barn in my area, slightly further away from the lake and without a vineyard (but maybe an orchard?).
The truth of course is that I will never own any property in this area, as the prices are exorbitant. But hey, we can always dream a little…
Fabulous! I love number two.
If you move a little further north, you might be able to afford the barn of your dreams, and the weather and the countryside is still fabulous.
Ah, yes, but would I still get the skiing? You see, my demands are very specific… and the weather has been pretty awful almost everywhere in France this year.
yes true. but you could live, say, in the Gironde, and go skiing at the weekends.
Marina Sofia – We can indeed dream. And those converted barns really are gorgeous. I can see why you’d want one. Thanks for sharing. š
Very different from the wooden American or Scandinavian barns, aren’t they? I do like a good pile of old stone…
I’m not a country girl, but wow… All that space. I can’t say more.
This ‘countryside’ has the bonus of being just 20 minutes away from the centre of Geneva by car (plus a tram stop about 10 mins. away), so that’s my idea of rural…
These are gorgeous! We can always dream right?
Of course I don’t necessarily want the building site associated with barn conversions…
I never knew how badly I wanted a barn conversion until now š
Glad to have started you off on an obsession I’ve had for about a year now… First chateau, then modern villas, now barns… whatever next? Treehouses?
The ‘tradition and modernity’ one for me please! Though the chateau with the view strongly appeals too…
Ah, decisions, decisions… Shall I post some more pics next week to add to the confusion?
Please do! I enjoy my vicarious house-hunting excursions… š
Gorgeous…makes me “homesick” for La Belle France. The barns here in NV are so very different and so popular with artists and photographers.
I LOVE barn conversions – I definitely share your dream!
