Friday Fun: What Makes Me Happy

An odd rumble-jumble of personal pictures here, of things around us, places we’ve seen, the small and big things which make us happy. For those days when we don’t have the budget for chateaux, treehouses and writing sheds.

Holiday in Greece.

Spring, the far-too-short season.

Food, glorious food. Especially sweet things. Oh, and drinks are nice too...

Books and creativity in all their forms.

And, of course, my boys. Preferably when they are running about outside rather than playing video games.

And if you’re wondering why Thursday has become the new Friday for the Friday Fun posts: that’s because today is Ascension and a holiday here in France. The umpteenth one for this month. I can remember a time when days off school made me happy… Tell me what makes you happy, both big things and small!

  1. Gorgeous pictures! I want to live near you! Sunshine! Macaroons! Lovely flowers! Sounds like our Monday Bank Holidays; there are a couple in May. And of course, your lovely sons!

    1. There are 5 holidays in May in France – no one seems to get any work done. The first two were completely wet, though, so luckily we have a sunny one at last!

  2. I love these ‘photos, Marina Sofia! And I think it’s so important to keep a focus on those everyday things that bring us contentment. They help sustain us.

    1. Thank you, Margot, it is indeed the little things that keep us grounded and happy. I can feel a poem coming on (or was it one I read somewhere): ‘Happiness is a rolling cat/ and children hiding in the branches’.

  3. Great photos! Enjoy ‘le pont’ and prepare for ‘le weekend de la Pentecôte’. Things that make me happy: a new book in the mail, warmer weather, a bottle of good wine, waking up next to a loved one, …

  4. Thanks for sharing.

I thought we were Friday yesterday. Tous ces ponts, ça perturbe.

People are often off in May because of the public holidays and also because it’s your last chance to take your days off accrued from the year before. Otherwise on 1st of June, pouf! they vanish!
