Although I have a business webinar to run later on today, my thoughts are very much focused on a selection of poems I will be submitting for a competition. So here are some poems which will not make the grade, but which suit the season.

Burnt-ochre leaves run
alongside my car. Warm hug
after sleepless nights.
Ghost-white snails clinging
at the end of hot summer:
let go of grass blade
Distant bark of dogs
embrace sun darting through leaves
then pop of shooting!
colourless maidens bustling
in their silver gowns.
Leaves in frost casing.
Darting in the undergrowth –
hoary platitudes.

I like the “bustling in their silver gown” haiku in particular! PS I found your blog via a tweet in Rebecca Bradley’s #BringSocialBack list. 🙂
How lovely to meet you! I will check you out too.
Thank you! I think your name is familiar … perhaps from Yasmin Selena Butt or Nicky Wells’ blog(s) a while back?
Nicky, most definitely – I’ve known her for many years now!
In haiku you always sense the season
…be it only the whiff or a sign.
Thanks for sharing your haiku!
I’m so glad you shared these, Marina Sofia. They really convey the feel and look of autumn in so many ways. I hope your webinar goes/went well!
I love the one about the snails! Your ability to come up with such a varied selection amazes me, particularly as these are the ones that didn’t make the grade!
Love it specially the last one ~
