It seems that you don’t have to have an all-singing, all-dancing, all-mod-cons shepherd’s hut to write a book. Who’d have thunk that? Here are some garden sheds where magic happens.

There’s something very appealing about the rustic nature of these retreats. Roald Dahl’s seems particularly attractive (even if we can’t see what it looks like inside).
Well, the inside is a good deal messier, but yes, you can visit it – with his very special armchair and writing board. Here you go: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g1150572-d577932-i46234413-The_Roald_Dahl_Museum_and_Story_Centre-Great_Missenden_Buckinghamshire_En.html
I am so happy that Neil Gaiman writes among treetops – it’s perfect! Nice dog too 🙂
Must be very relaxing! Although he travels so much, I’m not sure when he actually writes there.
I’m pretty sure I saw that infamous shepherd’s hut or a variant of it for sale in a garden centre near Burford…
I suppose Dickens had a shed in the garden to escape from a house full of children and because he wasn’t all that keen on the company of his wife.
I rather like the shed with the patio doors & upstairs ladder, although it could be quite small in the roof space, however first I aspire to a garden big enough for any sort of a shed 🙂
Yes, Dickens and Tolstoy and Dahl and quite a few others had the shed to escape from family responsibilities – and the wives who took care of the family.
Neil Gaiman’s for me. Don’t think I could cope with the one that has windows all the way round. I’d be constantly looking over my shoulder!
These are all delightful, Marina Sofia! And it’s a great reminder that you don’t need a lot of trappings to write. I like the Dahl shed the best, but the others are really appealing, too.
I yearn for a writing shack!
Maybe Neil Gaiman has been turned into a dog by one of the characters in his book…
Those are a lot more glam than any garden shed I’ve ever had!
My shed is full of gardening tools, unfortunately! I love Cressida’s shed.
