Friday Fun: Reading Oasis

I may be ordering an orange and lemon tree for the conservatory, but for the time being, this is what my little reading oasis looks like (before it gets too cold to sit in there). Although there hasn’t been that much time for reading lately…

Here are some more ambitious reading corners to which one might aspire…

Friday Fun: The Teen Bedroom I Wish I’d Had

Have you ever noticed how pathetically floral and pastel teenage girls’ bedrooms are? What I would have liked as a teen (and what I still like in a bedroom) was a cave-like atmosphere, with plenty of room for books, and a hankering for exploration and dreaming.

But if I were to go with the truly grandiose, I would have liked to have a room in a tower, a whole floor to myself. Below is just a small part of the ideal…

Friday Fun: Bedrooms You May Never Want to Leave

There is an irony in there somewhere. On those days when you need to accomplish so much, but all you’d like to do is curl up in bed with a good book. I must resist!

Friday Fun: White Breeze, Deep Calm

Back in the days when I had complete freedom to decorate my house without fear of sticky fingers, a trail of breadcrumbs, opinionated non-decorators and generally messy family members, I opted for an all-white interior, with accents of blue.

Some might find white on white too cold and clinical, reminiscent of hospitals and canteens, but I long for those days of effortless simplicity. Classic, calming, bringing back happy memories of the sea and endless horizons… Holiday time!

Friday Fun: Luxuries You Never Knew You Wanted

What do you get the house-owner who has everything? Well, perhaps one of life’s extra luxuries, such as one of these:

Or perhaps just that stalwart favourite: a library with a sliding ladder?

No, sorry, my mistake! That isn’t a luxury, that is a necessity, of course.

What would be your little (or big) home luxury, if money were no object?

Friday Fun: Never Enough Reading Nooks

Because no bedroom is complete without a comfortable reading nook (even though I do like reading in bed too)… especially when it comes with a view.

Because, according to Domaine Home, even film stars like Jessica Alba need some downtime in their own library… (and if I had a library like that, I wouldn’t even bother to go out to be a film star).

Friday Fun: Writing Desks and Cabins, Of Course

It’s been such a busy week! What better way to end it (and look forward to the half-term holidays) then with a few pictures of the places where we have been so good and hard-working…
